Opinel Knife N°9 - Stainless steel

Strong and classic
Reliable and robust, it is a multifunctional tool for all craftsmen.
Its stainless steel blade is resistant to corrosion. The beech wood handle is comfortable in hand. The Virobloc® safety system locks the blade in both open and closed positions.
Hardness 55–57 HRC. European origin. The stainless steel used in OPINEL blades is of optimized quality, ensuring high resistance to corrosion and high mechanical properties. The blade offers excellent sharpness and high resistance to abrasion (wear), allowing it to withstand regular contact with hard materials like ceramics before needing to be sharpened again. Stainless steel has the advantage of not requiring special maintenance under normal usage conditions, unlike carbon steel. However, it can reach its limits if in prolonged contact with aggressive environments (acid, saltwater, detergent ...).
Classic blade Opinel has a Yatagan shape. The Yatagan shape is inspired by the traditional Turkish sabre, with the tip facing upwards. The blade is ground in an exclusive convex profile, which ensures the strength of the blade and allows for effective resharpening.
Beech is the most common wood used for Opinel handles. It has a PEFC certification and comes from ecologically managed farms in the Jura and Vercors regions. It is hard, durable, and easy to work with. It has a homogeneous appearance, light color ranging from yellow to pink. It is recognized by numerous small dark streaks. The handle is lacquered to protect it from moisture and dirt.
The Virobloc safety ring, invented by Marcel Opinel in 1955, is installed on all folding knives from model No. 06 onwards. The Virobloc is made of stainless steel and has two parts, one fixed and one sliding. In addition to locking the blade in the open position (safety during use), it is now also possible to lock the blade in the closed position (safety during transport).
